KAPLAN UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES ARRAY OF BENEFITS FOR MILITARY STUDENTS, INCLUDING 53 PERCENT TUITION DISCOUNT FOR ACTIVE DUTY TROOPS

Tuition discount is designed so that military benefits can cover the full cost of tuition.

Davenport, IA, Nov. 6, 2008 - Kaplan University today announced the launch of its new Military Student Support Center and a suite of new services for military students - including a 53 percent tuition discount for active duty service members. The benefits are designed to enhance the flexibility and accessibility of higher education for military personnel, spouses and veterans.

"Kaplan University has educated thousands of military service members since 2001 and they are among some of our most disciplined, highly motivated and dedicated students," said Scott Kilgore, Vice President of Admissions and a U.S. Army veteran. "In addition to their desire to serve, a key motivation for enlistment is the educational benefits. In return for their great sacrifice, the University strives to provide a stellar academic experience for its students."

The new Kaplan University Military Tuition Discount reduces the undergraduate tuition from $353 to $166 for active duty service members and Reservists. Military veterans will pay $230 per quarter credit, a 34 percent discount. These tuition discounts mean that military benefits should cover the cost of undergraduate tuition at Kaplan University. Additionally, the spouses of active duty military will receive a 10 percent discount.

Kaplan University's Military Student Support Center is designed to help military students, spouses and veterans make a smooth transition into higher education. The Center is staffed by trained admissions, financial aid and academic advisors who work exclusively with military students and are prepared to deal with the unique challenges that many of them face.

The new Military Leave Policy allows military students to take a 180-day leave without being dropped from their program of study. Active military personnel, National Guardsman and Reservists may request a leave of absence after one term of enrollment in cases of military deployment or activation.

New Universal Degree Plans offer a larger open elective pool allowing students to bring in more transfer, military and/or experiential learning credits. Military students attending college for the first time can also take advantage of Kaplan MyPath, a program that utilizes career planning and student success diagnostics to help them craft a course of study that maximizes their career potential. Kaplan is among the first online universities to utilize these assessment tools among all freshmen to address study skills and career focus before they begin their academic program.
